AMAZING tacos!!! One of my favorite and best taquerias in Chicago. Food is amazing, I recommend getting any type of tacos and the Mexican drink called "Tepache", so authentic and tasty. I had "tacos de canasta" but I wasn't a big fan of them, yet they were good. It gets a little busy so expect some waiting time in the weekends. All the employees are very nice and friendly. Muy rica comida y muy buen servicio, yo recomiendo mucho los tacos y el tepache, muy autentico y delicioso. La gente muy amable, buena comida y buen servicio.

The tacos are perfect, with lots of choices. I've had beef, steak, pork and tongue, and all are excellent, but there are still many I've not tried. Friends who have tried the burritos like them. I've had hauraches once, and it was well prepared, but this is not my favorite. We typically stay on North Michigan Ave when visiting Chicago, but this is always a destination for us.

We found this taco joint from Netflix. It gets super busy so get there early and also expect a line and the tables to be full. The tacos de pastor was deckhouse!!! I'd go back to this place. Wish I had the tacos de canasta!!!!!!!! Def would come back.

Stopped in for a late lunch and there was plenty of seating inside. The tacos were small but filled with a good amount of meat. I preferred the suadero because it was chopped up and the steak was not. Salsas were flavorful and the horchata was delicious! They also give you plenty of limes and radish.

It's been three years since I reviewed La Chaparrita restaurant and a lot has happened since then: I went from being a visitor to Chicago to a resident I lost (all) my favorite taco establishments in Los Angeles (my old home) and I had to find new ones here in Chicago La Chaparrita was my go-to taco place here and it became exponentially more difficult to secure a table due to the reason below The Chicago Tribune and several other food sites praises of Chaparrita made "this little secret" of ours into a demanding presence All of these things (above) occurred and quickly alienated me. Don't get me wrong, this change was GOOD for these wonderful people at Chaparrita, and they certainly deserved all of the benefits these changes have brought them. But, La Chaparrita was our secret "Gem" that's no longer our secret. And yes, it's just as good and special as The Chicago Tribune and food sites published. I believe it's safe for me to say that Chaparrita makes the best tacos I've ever consumed; and I'm talking square here! So, on this Sunday evening my wife, son and his girlfriend went to the Greek Festival on Halsted St. and it was so crowded and swarming with people, we were uncomfortable and left. My wife felt like tacos and we all moaned, "we wish La Chaparrita was still doable"! My son said, lets go there and try to get in; just maybe we could pull this off. And for some unknown reason, we immediately got a table. Ah, man, it was so nice being back here, I could have cried. We got down to seriously ordering: * Taco Lenguas (Tongue) and they were beyond good * Taco Pastors (Pork) were ridiculous * Taco Campechano (Flank Steak) were crazy magnificent * Taco Tripa (Tripe) my fave by a ton * Taco Suadero (Special cut of meat) one word "Unbelievable" * Taco Canasta (Potato) we started and ended with this treasure * Cebollitas Asada are grilled Cambray Onions that go perfect with this meal Every bite of every taco was a work of art; literally a masterpiece. The sauces they have go from mild to atomic and everything in between so you will have your choice of "Heat" covered. I don't know when I'm coming back here, but I'll guarantee you one thing, I'll get in line, be patient, shut my mouth, do a crossword puzzle and wait the wait, like a good patron should.

Easily the best tacos I have had so far. This is what I have been looking for succulent, crispy, tender, flavorful tacos! The tacos and the hot sauces were both some of my favorites I've had in the city!

La Chaparrita Grocery is nestled inside a Mexican grocery store, and the flavors of everything were amazing! What we ordered: Tongue, pastor, and asada tacos: the tacos were smaller than usual, but they were all packed with flavors. My fav was the asada Tacos de canasta: these were surprisingly good! I liked the one with the chorizo filling the most Oatmeal licuados: SO yummy and creamy. this drink complement our meal very well Carne asada huarches: interesting. the huarache was crispy and chewy huarache and the carne asada was flavorful carne asada. Great for sharing! Overall, we loved their authenticity and ambiance. It's a must-visit and I definitely recommend!

I don't want to give this place five stars. I don't want the rest of the internet to know that some place like this exists. I don't want all of the random, uneducated, privileged eaters out there coming here to give this place a worse review because the service isn't impeccable. But it's worth it. It's that good. Everything is good. Please try it. Food 5/5 Every taco is good. I've had all of them. The onion platter is so sweet and tasty. The spicy sauces are good. My favorite tacos are al pastor with pineapple, the longanisa, and the campechano. You won't regret it I promise. Wash it down with a watermelon water or some horchata. Then get more tacos. Ambiance 3/5 Its a little grocery store/restaurant. The ambiance is perfect for getting tacos. Only come here for food. Service 3/5 Its one or two ladies working hard to take orders, prep food, and put it out. If they get busy, it gets backed up. That's the nature of it. Maybe brush up on your Spanish before coming. The food is worth it
